First you need to determine the amount of wrapping paper you need. To do this open the roll of wrapping paper on a table and stand the bottle on top so that it is just in from the edge, one centimetre in is about right, then lay the bottle on its side. Cut the paper so that it is about ten centimetres longer than the bottle.
Next wrap the bottle so as to make a tube round it leaving enough wrapping paper at the base to cover the bottom of the bottle then with a pair of scissors, cut down along where the two sided of the paper join until you get to the bottle.
The next stage is to wrap the bottom of the bottle. The most attractive way to do this is with a fan fold. This is achieved by first folding in the paper to the middle of the bottle base. Holding the folded edge in place, take another piece of paper from the rim of the bottle base about two centimetres away from the first, and fold that to the centre. Keep on going round the bottle until the fan fold is completed. Any excess paper should be tucked into the last fold and the fan sealed with a piece of tape.
Next turn your attention to the top of the bottle. First flatten the paper and turn to get a close fit. Fold the edge inwards making a crease going to the centre of the bottle. Repeat this on the opposite side and fold in any excess so that you end up with a point. You should have made a triangular shape.
Fold the triangle in half so that the point is folded back to half way down the neck of the bottle and tape the triangle down. Finally, tie a piece of gift ribbon into a neat bow around the bottle neck for a perfectly wrapped present.
