How to Gift Wrap a Necklace

One thing that most men are very bad at is gift wrapping. Of course this isn’t the only thing they are bad at, but it is certainly one of their weakest talents. You have spent half the afternoon trudging round the shops finding her that special necklace (or perhaps you have been surfing eBay) and now it is in your possession (either in an Argos bag or it has arrived through the letterbox in that eBay seller’s ubiquitous packaging, a Jiffy bag) and you need to make it presentable. Presentation is everything.

There are two advantages in making it look presentable. The first is to make it appear that the said necklace cost you considerably more money than it did in reality; the second is to impress your other half and to have her believe that, despite many appearances to the contrary, you are really a sensitive and caring person after all. This will pay dividends.

First you need to purchase the wrapping material. You might have skimped a little on the necklace, but you must not skimp on the wrapping. You will need a gift box of appropriate size, some tissue paper, some wrapping paper, some transparent sticky tape (the invisible kind is best), some ribbon, a ready-made bow (as a male you should not even consider making a bow yourself as certainly you will fail to make anything that is even nearly acceptable).

Now, for the difficult part; the above items should be coordinated. This is not easy to explain, but it means that they should have textures, patterns and colours that look good together in such a way that the whole is more than the sum of the parts.

Carefully wrap the necklace in the tissue paper which is colour coordinated with the design of the gift box. Place wrapped necklace in box. Decide the size and area of wrapping paper you need and trim to size. Carefully wrap box in quality coordinated wrapping paper keeping everything tight and even and sticking down the flaps with transparent sticky tape. Carefully tie up wrapped box with ribbon and stick on ready made bow.

OK, so your first few attempts might look a mess, but at least she will know that you put in some effort for which she will be grateful.
